Signs It's Time For Your Brakes To Be Repaired

Posted on: 30 June 2018

The brakes on your car have a big responsibility. They are in charge of stopping your car when necessary. If your brakes are not in good condition, it could mean it may take longer for your car to stop, and in an emergency situation this can be a very big deal. Imagine needing to stop quickly because a car in front of you has slammed on their brakes for some reason. If your brakes are not in good condition then you may end up hitting the other car because your car couldn't stop in time. If you aren't sure what type of condition your brakes are in, know what signs to watch out for.

Read on for signs to watch out for.

Screeching

A screeching noise when braking is usually due to the brake pad being so worn down that the brakes are now scraping on the rotor. If you let this go, you may end up needing new rotors as well. Brake replacement can be an expense on it's own, but needing new rotors on top of it can really put a dent in the budget. If you hear a screeching noise, stop driving your car until you can get it into a brake repair shop.

Wobbling

If you feel like your car is wobbling when you apply the brakes, it could be due to an issue with your rotors. The rotors may have gotten worn out and are now uneven. This usually happens when your brake pads have worn completely out and have now rubbed into the rotors. Your rotors will need to be replaced along with your brakes.

No Pedal Resistance

If you are pushing the brake pedal to the floor and still are not able to stop right away, this is a big problem. You may not have any brakes at all and are in an unsafe vehicle. It's important to get off of the road if this is going on with your car. Get your car to a brake repair shop safely by having it towed, rather than being driven. You are putting yourself and other motorists in danger.

Warning Lights

Some cars will tell you ahead of time if your brakes are in need of some type of repair or inspection with a dashboard warning light. If your light has come on, it's important to have it checked out to be sure there isn't a problem. If they are in need of repair, have them repaired or replaced immediately.

Your brakes have an important job to do. They will keep you, your family, and other motorists safe, but only if they are working properly. Have your brakes repaired or replaced by a brake repair specialist. Contact an auto shop like Furgersons Garage to get your repairs done as soon as you see the warning signs.
